The Feast of the patron saint of our Archdiocese, St. Jarlath, is celebrated each year on June 6th. On Friday, June 10th, a special Mass was celebrated at Cloonfush Cemetery, on the site of the monastic settlement, which tradition tells us was established by St.Jarlath. It was from here that Jarlath set out in his horse and cart with the commission to establish a church wherever the wheel broke. According to tradition the wheel broke in Tuam, and he established his church, probably at Tubber Jarlath, which was a place of pilgrimage for many centuries.
The celebrant of the Mass was his grace, Archbishop Neary. Fr Ray Flaherty and Fr Sean Cunningham concelebrated the Mass. Thanks to the people of Cloonfush and to all who helped prepare for the Mass. Thanks also to P.J. O Connor for capturing the occasion on camera and for supplying the photos.
